After getting your teeth professionally whitened you’ll want to keep your smile looking bright! Here are a few tips from our Surrey dentist on how to keep your smile white after teeth whitening treatment.
Brushing & Flossing Thoroughly
Brushing and flossing regularly and sufficiently is key to keeping your teeth healthy and bright. A strong oral hygiene routine will help you to remove surface stains and keep them from setting into your teeth. Be sure to brush your teeth twice a day every day, for two minutes at a time, and floss your teeth at least once a day to keep your teeth white.
Being thorough is important. Gently brush all four quadrants of your mouth for 30 seconds each. Keep brushing until you have completed two full minutes of brushing. (Two minutes may feel a lot longer than you'd expect.) An electric toothbrush with a round, rotating head can be helpful with this process. Some models of electric toothbrushes come with built in timers that let you know when the two minutes has passed.
Avoid Dark-Coloured Foods and Drinks
Tooth discolouration can occur over time due to dark pigmented foods and drinks. In order to help keep your teeth white consume foods such as dark berries, coffee, tea, and even spices like curry, in moderation.
Do you need another good reason to quit smoking? Be kind to your teeth! Smoking can turn your teeth yellow or even brown over a very short period of time.
Toss those smokes in the trash if you want to keep your smile sparkling white!
Occasional Touch Ups
The effects of your whitening treatment are bound to wear off a bit over time. If you notice that your teeth aren't as white as they were after having them treated, it may be time for a touch up. Just contact your dentist to reorder whitening solution then re-use the whitening trays you already have.
